In the Tarot Deck, The Lovers are card number six in the Major Arcana, associated with the Gemini zodiac sign and symbolizing love. The archetype exists within all of us and can be more or less visible in our lives at different times.

The card shows a loving couple of a naked man and woman with a red-winged angel. They are a symbol of Eve and Adam in Eden. Behind the woman is the tree of knowledge with apples and the snake, ‘the Serpent’. The woman faithfully looks up at the angel, but the man looks searchingly at the woman. We can interpret this body language in many ways, but one is that the woman leads the man spiritually through her connectedness, the man seeks the woman to come into contact with her as a container for spirituality. The two have different roles and the roles complement each other. They are Twinflames. The man stands by a tree with flames instead of leaves. They symbolize his desire to serve the woman in different ways. Also that he must be able to control his fire and not use it destructively, not from lust but from love. The woman is just a symbol of the inner woman that exists within everyone and the man is a symbol within us.

Completely depending on which tarot cards are drawn around The Lovers, the card communicates differently.

The Lovers carry a gift. We are on earth to experience all different emotions. Pain, joy, betrayal, hate, happiness, peace, grace, longing, hope, inspiration, loneliness, love and its opposite. We must experience all the different emotions, master them, refine them and let the emotions transform us. It is like facets of a diamond and not until we have integrated all the emotions, can we become the diamond. When we go back to God / Source / Angel on the card, we can only feel one emotion and that is love. We are limited there. The man and the woman are naked, vulnerable, open, new to each other, new to all the emotions they will experience together as lovers – uncertainty, doubt, intense emotions, fears, stress, euphoria, desire… all the emotions that swirl around in an intense love affair, it’s like an explosion. Man has an absolutely unique ability to feel. It is precisely the emotions that make people human. They refine us, open us, expand our expression and awareness. All emotions that exist must be experienced and integrated in order for us to become whole, even the troublesome ones such as anxiety, hatred, revenge, depression, shame, etc. All emotions are our ‘teachers’ who educate us, so there is no judgment only learning. For man and woman to become one. The card speaks of duality and how the angel guides them both with her blessing in their love explosion. So the card also speaks of trinity. The angel is an aspect of what the man and woman become when they become one – they become the angel.

This tarot card comes up in my layouts mostly around true love, self-love or a yes affirmation. When you have gone through a life experience where you have accepted yourself and begin to grow in a new phase.

All cards have their gifts and they are here to help us become aware. We must become whole and free from inner conflicts. Not until we have accepted ourselves 100% have we mastered the lessons of life.
