In the Tarot deck, The Hanged Man is card number 12 in the Major Arcana and symbolises stagnation before enlightenment. The archetype exists within all of us and can be more or less visible in our lives at different times.
The Hanged Man shows a man hanging from his foot in a tree with his hands behind his back and a strong halo around his head. He appears to be in an impossible position upside down but does not seem to be suffering. The truth is that the man is trying a new perspective to gain insight. The card shows his own aha experience, of which is the halo. It is darkest before dawn and that tough trial often lead to a personal inner victory. One may have blocked energy, blocked chakras and other heavy energies in their field that block the flow.

The hanged man is carrying a gift. It’s about learning to appreciate stagnation, learning to rest in stagnant periods because when everything seems to stand still, the change takes part inside you. Some cycles move slowly and we can perceive that “nothing is happening”. We are not always used to resting in trust and letting the process work in peace and quiet, especially not in uncomfortable positions. The challenge of this card is that sometimes there is nothing we can do but let go and let something play out as it is meant to. Some is good at this, while others can go crazy from not feeling in control, not seeing what is going to happen, feeling suspended, ‘hanging in the air’. But the more you fight against a phase like this, the harder it gets.
This tarot card comes up in my readings when you have paused for inner clarity. Often because you are not ready or getting ready for something or someone.
All cards have their gifts and they are here to help us become aware. We must become whole and free from inner conflicts. Not until we have accepted ourselves 100% have we mastered the lessons of life.
