Cups cards in the tarot deck are symbolized by the element Water and rule the zodiac signs Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. In classic Rider Waite Smith tarot decks, the Eight of Cups shows a person walking away with a cane. Behind the person are eight cups set out for him that he is not interested in, like the man in Four of Cups. The difference is that in Eight of cups you have a clearer judgment. One is not consumed by bitterness, sadness or sentimentality. One leaves superficial temptations behind such as the Seven of Cups, and instead goes towards true inner satisfaction as we see in the next card. Eight of Cups is the bridge we cross when we are ready for a better life. It is a mysterious scene. The man is surrounded by water (emotions) and a moon that is both a crescent (symbolizing a new cycle) and a full moon (consummation). There are strong forces that pull on the man, but he steadfastly follows his inner guidance. He is a Pilgrim of life. He’s perfectly fine with the consequences of his decisions – good or bad, he’s ready, he passed the test. He has a pure Aura now. In the next card he gets his reward!

This tarot card comes up in my layouts when one is tired of a situation, or when something is unworthy of you. You know your worth and are mature enough to say no to what you would have liked in the past, for lack of knowing better. Now you enter into an alliance with yourself and your own path and in that you are ready to turn your back on everything that no longer serves you. You are your own servant.
All cards have their gifts and they are here to help us become aware. We must become whole and free from inner conflicts. Not until we have accepted ourselves 100% have we mastered the lessons of life.
